Carlos Vega

New York City-dwelling, Spanish-born sculptor Carlos Vega alters large-scale, malleable metal plates through engraving and deep cuts. Vibrant fields of oil paint, stamps and collaged material reveal themselves beneath the geometric patterns and designs that undulate across the surfaces of his carved lead panels, hinting at the traditional latticed screens found in his native Melilla, Spain.

Pete 'n Keely

The year is 1968, and it's been a thrilling week rehearsing at the NBC studios for the live telecast of the "Pete and Keely Reunion Special." They're America's Singin' Sweethearts and no matter what you may have read in the tabloids, Pete 'n Keely are getting along just fine. This Off-Broadway hit is packed with classic favorites like "Besame Mucho," "Secret Love" and "Fever" as well as great new songs. Featuring San Diego favorites Eileen Bowman and Phil Johnson, "Pete 'n Keely" is a warmhearted and hilarious return to a special time in America's history.

Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye

Into The Light

This solo exhibition of watercolors by celebrated North County Artist, Duance R. Light who made Escondido his home. Into the Light will feature works acclaimed throughout the US ranging from near-photorealistic to more expressive and gestural, encompassing scenes from the Escondido Valley and beyond.

GREAT BALLS OF FIRE! Comets, Asteroids, Meteors!

West Coast debut of a new exhibition! The threat of a catastrophic impact from an asteroid or comet is a staple of popular culture. If there was a dinosaur-killer in Earth’s past, will humankind suffer the same fate? What are the chances and how do we assess the risks? For that matter, what are asteroids, comets and meteorites, and where do they come from? Have you ever wondered about the origins of comets, asteroids and meteors? Or what they can tell us about Earth? GREAT BALLS OF FIRE! Comets, Asteroids, Meteors explores recent discoveries and cutting-edge science relating to these mysterious space rocks through hands-on activities, computer-based interactives, meteorite specimens, scale models and Asteroid Encounter, an immersive audio-visual experience!

Facilities Master Plan

The breakfast workshop will outline Southwestern College’s draft Facilities Master Plan, which leverages its $389 million bond measure, Proposition R. A revised plan was also one of the centerpieces to the College’s recent re-evaluation of construction projects. The plan also includes ideas for the college’s Higher Education Centers in National City and San Ysidro. Consultants have been working since last semester to evaluate the college’s educational strengths and gather information on career and job trends to help Southwestern chart a course for the future. Admission is free, but RSVP is required.

Double Visions: Contemporary Collaborative Artists

A Sculpture Exhibition featuring artists who work together and influence each other artistically. The artists chosen for this exhibition, work in a wide range of three-dimensional media. Artist opening Feb. 7th, 6-8pm.

Into The Light

The exhibition features paintings of local Escondido architecture and scenes of the San Diego Bay, as well as images of boats and trains which were the artist's specialty. Praised for his contributions to the local art scene, Duane R. Light embraced his adopted community. He serves as the President of the Board of Directors for both Watercolor West and the San Diego Watercolor Society. He also served on the Board of Directors of several organizations including the La Jolla Art Association, the San Diego Art Institute, Rancho Bernardo Art Association and the Big Bear Art Association, among others.

Capturing the Wonder of Women

Come see the museum's first juried show in its new Gallery Space at Liberty Station. The show will have UCSD's Li Huai as art curator and Robert Pincus as juror. More than 150 local and regional artists submitted work for this show, and 48 pieces representing "The Wonder of Women" have been selected to make up this compelling exhibition to run through February 2013. Opening reception is Dec. 7 at 6 p.m.

New Community & Visitors Center Opens

The new office will serve as welcome center for visitors and locals. Fulfilling a need for locals and visitors, the new center, staffed by The Del Mar Village Association, will provide information on hotels, dining, special events and activities in Del Mar. On display will be Village walking maps, visitors guides, restaurant menus and downtown community and special events information.
