Emerging Stormwater Compliance Issues for Land Development

New municipal and industrial stormwater regulations impacting the San Diego region demand new accountability and adjustments to the current practices that affect a broad range of industries and development. The recently adopted 5th- term MS4 permit and soon to be adopted industrial stormwater permit, coupled with requirements for low impact development (LID), have a number of implications on both existing development and future development. Past prescriptive stormwater management and pollutant control activities are being replaced with more rigorous performance standards and outcomes. As a result, these regulations will require development and industry to implement a different approach in addressing stormwater runoff and managing the associated risk.

This exhibit celebrates the diverse beauty, brilliance and bravery of Black women throughout the world and highlights many local women that have made amazing contributions within their communities and professions. Our guest curator, Starla Lewis, is a longtime professor of Black History at Mesa Community College views the exhibit focus from a viewpoint well honed after 25 years of study and teaching the topic within the social scope of American life.

The situation in Ukraine is heating up, and to address the complex issues abroad, the community is invited to a lecture and luncheon hosted by SDSU political science professor Mikhail Alexseev, a Ukrainian native. Alexseev, an expert in Eastern Europe, Russia and former Soviet Union politics, visited Ukraine in December 2013, and will share his experiences from his recent visit.

The Sun Rises in Anambra Galleria and Film Exhibition

RISE Global Health Initiative, an NGO founded by graduates of UCSD’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy commissioned local filmmaker and photographer Jason Ilyas Curtis to document the cultural repercussions of epilepsy in rural southern Nigeria during the launch of their newest health development program, the Nigerian Epilepsy Care Advancement Program (NECAP) this past summer. A photography collection and a documentary short film were produced addressing how epilepsy patients are associated with the super natural. Come experience the story of a small group of passionate individuals, who since graduating, have facilitated the work of dozens of volunteers, provided training to over 200 indigenous health care professionals and, treatment for over 1000 patients.
