Mandate Memories

Artist in Residence: Jarmo Mkila

The large-scale autobiographical paintings of Jarmo Makila reflect personal childhood memories and he mythology of his native Finland, Literary allusions convey dreamlike reminiscences of boyhood experiences.

Metaloci: Points of Transformation

"Metaloci: Points of Transformation" is an exhibition curated by the San Diego Mesa College Museum Studies Program at the Mission Valley Library. Featured artists: Jenny Armer, Teresa Chen, Scott Genglebach, Daniele Fratarcangeli, Joshua Krause, Miguel Milló, Reinhart Selvik, and Charity Vincent. “Metaloci: Points of Transformation” is a group exhibit that investigates the elusive nature of transformation through the use of glass, metal, paint, photography, found-objects, and more. Each of the artists in the show has his own unique methodology for creating art, but the one common denominator among them all is an ability to transform ideas into tangible images and objects that embody a process of transformation.

16th Annual In the Company of Women Luncheon

This spectacular event will include the prestigious Tribute to Women & Industry (TWIN) awards, recognizing outstanding professional women in San Diego. This signature event raises critical financial support and awareness for the YWCA's comprehensive domestic violence and homelessness programs, including Becky's House®, Passages, and Cortez Hill Family Center.

Second Annual Albert Einstein Day of Innovations

Albert Einstein Academies (AEA) in partnership with the German American San Diego Foundation (GASDF) will be holding their second annual Albert Einstein Day of Innovations event to celebrate innovation and science education next Friday, April 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. on their campus at 3035 Ash Street, San Diego, CA 92102. Middle school students will hear from local science companies Carl Zeiss and Tocagen on the real life applications of products and scientific processes as they apply to units of study in genetics, cells and plate tectonics. There will also be an awards ceremony in the afternoon to recognize students for their science projects, including earthquake-proof houses and a Hunger Games-inspired arena that will showcase crossbred animals they created to understand genetics.

Gender, Race and Outsider Status: All In A Day's Work for Women of Color

The Professional Advancement and Diverse Women’s committees proudly invite you to join Helen Wan, attorney and author of The Partner Track, for a frank discussion on how gender, race, and outsider status impact the professional journey of women of color. Drawing from her personal experiences and themes explored in her book, Wan will discuss how women of color “experience the dynamics of corporate America” and what firms and companies can do to foster a more inclusive workplace. Lawyers Club thanks Foley & Lardner LLP for graciously hosting the program and generously treating attendees to breakfast. This program is free for members of Lawyers Club and/or co-hosts (see registration page). Non-Lawyers Club members may register for a fee of $15.00. One hour of MCLE credit for Elimination of Bias will be provided.

Congressional Luncheon

The Chamber’s Congressional Luncheon is one of San Diego’s best opportunities to hear directly from the San Diego regional congressional delegation. Each congress member will provide a brief update followed by topical questions and answers. The moderator will be Gene Cubbison, Political Reporter for NBC 7 San Diego.
