November 2012 ballot proposition recommendations

By

Proposition 30 -- NO

Gov. Jerry Brown’s cross my fingers “temporary” tax increase. There are thousands of ways to fix the state without raising taxes.

Gutless CALTAX and State Chamber take no positions. CRP, resounding NO.

Proposition 31 -- YES

Modifies state budget process to be multi-year and give local government’s long overdue flexibility in their own budgeting.

CALTAX, NO, State Chamber and CRP YES.

Proposition 32 -- YES

Prohibits the use of union or employer dues deductions for political purposes. Most important item on the ballot and does not stand a chance as passage would break the back of all unions.

Courageous CALTAX and State Chamber, no position, CRP adamant YES

Proposition 33 -- YES

Auto insurance rates set based on drivers’ personal history of insurance coverage. Sort of an insurance COBRA rule.

CRP Yes, CALTAX and Chamber, no positions.

Proposition 34 -- NO

A monument to hypocritical sophistry, the sponsors wants you to boo hoo over convicted killers and ignore 17,000 annual murder victims in the United States.

Chamber and CALTAX out of it for fear of alienating Democrats in the legislature. CRP supports.

Proposition 35 --YES

Criminalizes “human trafficking.” This law increases punishments for exploiting unknowing people for sex and various other acts.

Chamber and CALTAX mysteriously neutral, CRP YES.

Proposition 36 -- NO

Weakens the three-strikes initiative by requiring the third strike to be a dangerous or violent felony as defined instead of just any felony.

The sponsors have never seen a three striker’s rap sheet. They all have way more than three prior felonies and richly deserve their sentences.

Here the sponsors want you to boo hoo over repeatedly convicted dangerous felons and then release present and future such felons early. No concerns about victims. Chamber and CALTAX neutral, CRP NO.

Proposition 37 -- NO

Food Nazi’s think there are not enough law suits or labeling requirements. Aren’t all foods genetically engineered? CALTAX, Chamber and CRP all NO.

Proposition 38 -- NO

Affectionately called "Molly Munger’s state income tax increase." Mrs. Munger is a billionaire heiress of Charlie Munger, Warren Buffet’s “bad cop” partner in Berkshire Hathaway. She could fund this tax increase by herself and nothing stops her from donating whatever she wants. However, like all limousine liberals, she wants you to pay the tax so that she can feel good about it.

CALTAX, Chamber, and CRP all NO.

Proposition 39 -- NO

Imposes more taxes because blah blah blah blah blah blah! Chamber, CALTAX and CRP all NO.

Proposition 40 -- YES

This is an initiative sponsored by various incumbent Republicans to overturn the latest state senate redistricting plan. However, even the sponsors have dropped their support as “moot.” You can vote safely on this knowing it makes absolutely no difference to anyone. Chamber and CRP Yes, CALTAX, NO
