Located near the Wild Animal Park, San Pasqual Battlefield is the site of the only significant battle between the Californios and U.S. forces during the Mexican-American War.

Fought December, 1846, the battle was bloody but inconclusive. It is notable for the fact that Kit Carson and another scout ran from the battlefield in what is now North County to the harbor to bring reinforcements in record time.

The park has hiking trails and some picnic space. The museum showcases artifacts from the battle and early California.
