The Torrey Pines community is home to several world-class biotech, life sciences companies and research institutions, including the Scripps Research Institute and Sanford-Burnham. Industrial development is located in the southern portion of the community within Sorrento Valley.
“(Torrey Pines) has really developed as a hotbed that's kind of ground zero for San Diego for all our biotech,” said Ryan Egli, first vice president of the commercial real estate firm, CBRE. “I think the life science market itself has picked up. Given 90 percent of that market is life science, they've seen a lot of positive absorption, even just this year in the first five months of the year, a lot of activity up there. There's not a ton of availability up in that space and your close to single-digit vacancies. It has done well.”
