Population in Riverside County has exploded over the past 25 years, having increased 32 percent between 1990 and 2000 and another 15 percent between 2000 and 2003, according to U.S. Census Bureau data. Current population is more than 1.5 million.

According to the Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce, Riverside’s employment base is extraordinarily strong due to its diversity. Sectors with aggregate totals of more than 10,000 jobs include retail trade, education, manufacturing and government. Following close behind are health services and construction.

The high-tech sector is rapidly growing in Riverside, with the city, county and the University of California, Riverside cooperating in a Technology Park. The Cargo Port at March Air Reserve Base and the information technology services of Riverside Community On-Line are among the factors facilitating high-tech and other developments.
