Business Information

The affluent coastal city of Carlsbad lies 35 miles north of downtown San Diego along a seven-mile stretch of Pacific coastline. The resort town encompasses 39.11 square miles and is bordered by Encinitas and Batiquitos Lagoon to the south, Oceanside to the north, and Vista and San Marcos to the east.

The city government has a strong commitment to preserving open space. Carlsbad was one of the first municipalities in the state to protect sensitive wildlife habitat, and it expends significant financial resources to restore habitats damaged by newer developments. Current projections estimate 38 percent of the city will consist of open space when all major development is complete.

Carlsbad
Twenty-five years ago, a twelve-foot concrete barrier divided a major European city, Berlin, in half. The Wall reflected the divided city: The Eastern side was cement, colorless- and the western side of the wall was bright, with colorful graffiti. When travel restrictions lifted, people began to chip away at the Wall. Wolfgang Duerr, a native Berliner, commissioned pieces from the Berlin Wall in remembrance. The pieces that came from the falling edifice represent a coming together of freedom, tolerance and unity. Fifteen international artists, who all reside in San Diego and Los Angeles, were given these pieces of the Wall to create works of art representing freedom, unity and beauty.
