​Retail: Maggie's Café has leased 2,000 square feet of retail space in the 55,947-square-foot Serra Mesa Shopping Center at 3238 Greyling Drive, San Diego, 92123, from Omninet Serra Mesa LP. The property, leased for 10 years at $550,266, will be used for a restaurant.

Visitor Information

Originally part of the Mission San Diego de Alcala's lands. Serra Mesa developed south of Kearny Mesa in the years after World War II and the Korean War.  Military multi-family housing was developed first and then single family homes and apartments as well as the supporting retail were almost all built by 1970. 

Today the military housing is being replaced with new 900-unit two- and three-story town home village.  The Village at Serra Mesa is the U.S. Navy's largest public/private venture project to date.  The new homes replace 812 aging units with new housing and add seven acres of park to the area.  The project should be completed in 2005.  The renewal of the military housing is driving a renaissance of the entire area.

Kaiser Central Hospital

Hensel Phelps will present details about the new Kaiser Permanente San Diego Central Hospital. This 7 story, 321-bed capacity on 20-acres is expected to be complete in early 2017. The building will use energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, low-voltage LED lighting throughout and a solar panel system on its 1,479 car parking garage. This project will include a 3 story Energy Center, which will be the first onsite combined heat and power and cooling plant for a hospital in the State of California.
