San Diego-South | Map It

The City of San Diego encompasses the southern edge of the county and the busy international border crossing with Mexico.  The land was annexed from the county in 1957 and now includes the neighborhoods of Nestor, San Ysidro, Otay Mesa and the Tijuana River Valley.  Other neighborhoods found in this area are Egger Highlands and Palm City.

I-5 and I-805 come together in this area and provide access for visitors and commercial traffic to the border.  The City of Imperial Beach is on the western edge of the area and Tijuana forms the southern border.  The border crossing at San Ysidro is the busiest in the world, rivaled only by Singapore, and Otay Mesa is not far behind.  The city is in the midst of planning another entry port to relieve traffic on these two pressure points.
