Olivenhain, settled by German immigrants in 1884, cherishes its rural outlook and small town feel. Located adjacent to Rancho Santa Fe, the area's agricultural industry yielded to a residential community in the 1950s. The open fields and hillsides were subdivided into spacious lots that today hold large custom homes often with horse facilities.
Many homes have fruit orchards of citrus trees and gardening is a major pastime. The area is close to the shopping and services of both Encinitas and Carlsbad, making it easy for residents to fill their needs and retain their rural setting.
