Leucadia is quaint beach town located along the Pacific Coast Hwy in the northwestern section of Encinitas. Settled by Britons in 1865 who apparently had a taste for Greek mythology, the street names reflect Mt. Olympus more than California. There are beaches, shops, restaurants and surf shops strung along the Coast Hwy in a loosely organized town center.
Once the home of acres of avacado trees, flower and plant nurseries continue the areas agricultural heritage. Leucadia has a bucolic feel and is rich in trees and gardens.
Leucadia’s main street has surf shops, tattoo parlors, restaurants, rustic inns, liquor stores, donut shops, hair salons, a drug store, bike rental places, pizza shops, a few galleries and clothing stores.
The beaches around Leucadia make the town a popular vacation destination, and there are many vacation rentals in the area.
