Starting with the development of Rancho Bernardo in the 60s, the northeastern edge of the City of San Diego began to attract residents and industry. Almost all off the developments in this part of the city are master-planned communities. Commercial and residential areas are carefully planned and landscaped into the hills and mesas.
I-15 runs through the center of the area providing access to downtown and other areas of the county. The popular High Occupancy Vehicle lane provides commuters an express ride south every morning and north every evening. SR-56 will provide easy access to the coast when it opens in 2005.
