Fallbrook is located North of Escondido on the I-15 corridor just before the county line. The first recorded settlers were the Vital Reche family who arrived in 1869 and named the area for their Pennsylvania homestead, Fall Brook.
The area's climate is suitable for sub-tropical fruits, vegetables, avocados, olives and flower growing and agriculture remains the main business of the area. At one time it was known as "The Avocado Capital of the World." There are 50 wholesale and retail nurseries in the community.
Fallbrook is a community of 43,000, stretched over 127 square miles. Known as the ?Avocado Capital of the World,? the green fruit generates approximately $25 million in revenue for the area. . The downtown business center has preserved its historic character and many of the commercial buildings date to the late 1800's. In addition to the downtown area, there are seven shopping centers in Fallbrook and in neighboring Bonsall. The business base is retail and service companies. According to SANDAG, there are 1,353 businesses employing 11,027 people in the area.
