North Embarcadero Visionary Plan update expected Thursday

The Port of San Diego has announced that the Joint Powers Authority will have a construction and cost update on the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan at its first meeting of the year on Thursday.

The project encompasses an area on North Harbor Drive from Navy Pier to the B Street Pier and a portion of West Broadway from Pacific Highway to North Harbor Drive.

The North Embarcadero Visionary Plan is part of a comprehensive project to beautify the waterfront and create new public open space that welcomes residents and tourists. The project also includes significant improvements to roadways, utilities and storm water systems.

There is visible progress on phase 1 of the project. The South Pavilion structure, located on the west side of North Harbor Drive between Broadway Pier and Navy Pier, is coming together. Installation of the steel for the North Pavilion structure, located between Broadway Pier and B Street Pier, began on Dec. 16.

Fabrication of the formwork for artistic concrete walls at the new public restroom building, located just north of the North Pavilion, has begun and should be completed at the end of February 2014.

The project began construction in January 2012 and is anticipated to be completed in June 2014.

The North Embarcadero Visionary Plan phase 1 is a joint project between the Port, the city of San Diego and Civic San Diego.

Thursday's meeting will be held in the boardroom of the Port’s administration building at 3165 Pacific Highway starting at 3:30 p.m.
