Caltrans plans North Coast Corridor meeting

County residents will have an opportunity this week to hear the latest updates on the Interstate 5 North Coast Corridor project from the California Department of Transportation.

Caltrans is the state agency overseeing the plan, which proposes to add two express lanes in each direction on I-5 from La Jolla Village Drive in San Diego to Harbor Drive in Oceanside. At a public meeting Sept. 19, attendees will be provided information included in the plan’s Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement, which contains information from lagoon studies not yet finalized at the time of the EIR release. The supplement also includes and acknowledges Caltrans’ preference for the “Express Lanes Only” option for the proposed freeway expansion.

Caltrans design engineers, environmental planners and other project staff will lay out for public review maps and diagrams that are part of the supplemental EIR and take questions from attendees.

The meeting is planned for 6-8 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Encinitas Community and Senior Center, 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive in Encinitas.
