On The Agenda: Kick off the new year with an assortment of events

Happy 2013! The champagne is gone and the confetti is cleaned up, so it's time to get back in the swing of things. Get the new year off to a good start by joining your colleagues for a week of informational meetings and forums, an economic forecast and a workshop to create your dream life. End the week in celebration at one of two installation dinners hosted by the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors and the NECA San Diego Chapter.

The Urban Land Institute presents a Pre RFQ Briefing for the Chula Vista Bayfront on Tuesday. Key team members will discuss the entitlement process, financing and what is next in the process for the 556-acre Chula Vista Bayfront Master Plan, which has been approved by the coastal commission. The plan calls for a conference center, hotels, housing units, retail space and nature preservation. The panel includes Paul Fanfera, Port of San Diego; Alison Rolfe, Pacifica Companies; and Gary Halbert, city of Chula Vista. The event runs from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at The University Club on 750 B Street.

Local entrepreneurs will share inside views of the San Diego Start-Up Ecosystem at the San Diego MIT Enterprise Forum on Wednesday. This entrepreneur-driven, interactive discussion will include an expert panel to explore how local San Diego start-ups are leveraging the community and how the community evolves from there. The discussion runs from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Medical Education and Telemedicine (MET) building on the UCSD campus in La Jolla.

The San Diego North Chamber of Commerce hosts an Economic Forecast Luncheon on Thursday. The annual State of the Region will address the regional business environment and provide an economic forecast for the San Diego North community. Speakers include: John Chiang, California State Controller; Erik Bruvold, president, National University Institute System for Policy Research; and Joe Ahn, regional manager of Government & Public Affairs, Northrop Grumman. The luncheon runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Sony Electronics on 16535 Via Esprillo.

The San Diego ESI Forum presents the Fundamentals of Forensics for eDiscovery on Thursday. The forum will cover the state of forensic practice in identifying, preserving and collecting potentially relevant data for litigation. Other issues to be addressed include practical considerations regarding the types of collections that can be performed, who should conduct collections and issues in authenticating collections. The event runs from noon to 1 p.m. at the Edward J. Schwartz U.S. Courthouse on 221 W. Broadway, Courtroom One.

Learn how to create your dream life at NAWBO San Diego's workshop, “Fairytales Do Come True.” The interactive workshop will teach attendees the key that will keep them from having the life they deserve and how to dream and design a life using goal-setting techniques. The workshop runs from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Brandman University on 7460 Mission Valley Road.

NECA San Diego Chapter’s annual Installation of Officers is on Saturday. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m., and the program and dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Hilton Torrey Pines on 10950 N. Torrey Pines Road in La Jolla.

The Greater San Diego Association of Realtors celebrates the installation of its 2013 officers and board of directors on Saturday. The 2013 Installation Dinner and Dance will be at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina on 1380 Harbor Island Drive. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m., dinner and program start at 6:30 p.m. and dancing begins at 9 p.m.

The San Diego Convention Center hosts the San Diego Spring Home Show from Friday through Sunday. The event is designed for homeowners in all stages of remodeling, landscaping and decorating. The show features hundreds of home improvement and landscaping exhibits with product demonstrations.

The Joint Mathematics Meetings will run from Wednesday through Saturday at the Convention Center. The event is hosted by the Mathematical Association of America and the American Mathematical Society. There will be sessions by the Associations for Symbolic Logic, the Association for Women in Mathematics, the National Association for Mathematicians and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.

On Saturday and Sunday, the Convention Center will host the StarCityGames.com Open Series – a magic card game competition where competitors have the chance to win more than $20,000 in prices and qualify for the 2013 StarCityGames.com Invitational. The Convention Center is located on 111 W. Harbor Drive.
