Barnhart, Pasadena college complete construction

Contractor Barnhart Inc. and Pasadena City College have completed a new Industrial Technologies building and the renovation and expansion of the Campus Center and Bookstore.
The projects' total cost was $48 million.
The new 66,558-square-foot Industrial Technologies building was designed by PBWS Architects of Pasadena and includes 15 laboratories, classrooms and faculty and administrative offices.
The college's 40-year-old Campus Center building received a complete remodel of its interior and replacement of an exterior glass wall system.
Designed by LPA, Inc. of Irvine, the 47,065-SF Campus Center will provide services for the college's 29,000 students and include a cafeteria and dining facility.
The center offers wireless Internet access throughout the building.
The Campus Center expansion project also required the demolition of an existing one-story bookstore and construction of a newly designed two-story building, doubling the size of the bookstore.
The 19,970-square-foot bookstore building also houses the campus police department and a student business services center.
The project included site work, upgrades to underground utilities, landscaping and construction of two bridges that connect the bookstore building and Campus Center to the college's main entrance.
Members of the Barnhart team included Gil Fullen, vice president; senior project manager Gregory Andersen; project superintendents Gary Gunn and Lawrence Kato; and Joe O'Neill and Manuel Umanzor, field engineers. Barnhart, headquartered in San Diego, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Atlanta-based Heery International.
