Work under way on VA clinic in Loma Linda

KMA Architecture & Engineering announced that construction is 50 percent complete on the new $4.7 million Audiology Clinic at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Healthcare System, in Loma Linda.

The one-story, 8,000-square-foot building is expected to be completed in April 2012.

The KMA project team includes Tim Rubesh and Alison Warren. Engineering services are by Burkett & Wong for structural and civil; Elen Consulting for electrical; and DS Engineering Inc. for mechanical.

The landscape architect was Crescere Design, with interior design by Young & Company.

The general contractor is Tee Hee/Straub Construction Joint Venture.

“The project is coming together nicely and the new construction is blending well with the existing buildings,” said Tim Rubesh, principal at KMA.

“The design plan's intent is to unify the exterior appearance with the existing hospital campus, while maintaining a modern look with subtle color scheme differences,” Rubesh said.

The interior design was planned for efficient staff circulation.

Spaces within the clinic accommodate audiology operations, public and support spaces, hearing aid testing and fitting rooms.

In addition, exterior windows are placed to enhance the healing environment experience by creating small vistas for the patients from the interior to the landscaping outdoors.

Windows provide natural daylight throughout, while the sunshades prevent glare and heat gain into the building.

Berms, swales and sidewalks within the new building area are also in the works to be reconfigured.

PrimeCo gets contract for Tustin complex

PrimeCo Painting announced it has been awarded the contract to paint exterior surfaces and to provide wood replacement services for Sycamore Gardens, a 100-unit condominium complex in Tustin.

The community is under professional management by Esther Denn, of eDenn Property Management, of Laguna Hills.

The painting is part of a renovation project being done by the community that includes replacement of wooden architectural elements on the buildings.

Board president, John Woodbridge was assisted by other board members, including John Garay, in the vendor selection and contract negotiations. The paint specifications and color palette were developed by Pamela Esparza, of Vista Paint.

PrimeCoís project manager, Rigo Tovila Jr. and on-site foreman Steven Tovilla, will be responsible for the success of the painting project, according to Bill Butler, director, business development of Oceanside-based PrimeCo.

Jason Pearson, PrimeCoís construction manager, advises that the wood replacement will be done under the supervision of lead carpenter, Vicente Castellanos.
