Groundbreaking set for childrens' school

A groundbreaking for Pacific Preschool and Kindergarten of San Elijo Hills -- a 6,975-square-foot facility with a 10,000-square-foot outdoor playground -- will take place at 10 a.m. on March 8, at the school site on Elfin Forest Road, across the street from San Elijo Middle School.

The preschool and kindergarten -- which will feature eight individual classrooms surrounding a large multi-purpose room, a kitchen and ancillary facilities -- is scheduled to open in the fall, serving children from 18 months through kindergarten.

Pacific Preschoolís facility is being developed by DWO Enterprises, of Rancho Santa Fe.

Other members of the development team include Mascari Warner Architects, of San Diego; Bycor General Contractors, of San Diego; and landscape architects Weiland & Associates, of Temecula.

New CSUSM Student Union to be complete in '14

Work has begun on the new four-story, 89,283-square-foot California State University San Marcos Student Union, near the center of campus adjacent to Cesar Chavez Circle.

The building will have the fourth-floor entrance opening onto Kellogg Plaza.

The $43.98 million project is made possible through student fees.

When construction of phase one is complete in spring 2014 the union will feature four different dining options, a coffee shop and lounge, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, a convenience store, a quiet lounge, a spiritual lounge, a TV lounge, activity room and commuter lounge.

A ballroom, meeting rooms and office space for student union operations and the university cooperation will also be included.

New Monarch School planned for downtown SD

Ground has been broken on a new campus for Monarch School, the public K-12 school exclusively for area children impacted by homelessness.

The school is located on Newton Avenue, just south of Petco Park in downtown San Diego.

Bycor General Contractors is handling the remodeling of an existing 51,000-square-foot, two-story office building on 2.2 acres that will serve as Monarch Schoolís newest campus.

Over the past 14 years Bycor has assisted with the development, construction and renovation of Monarch school sites.

With completion of the building remodel projected for fall 2012, the new campus will allow for more than twice the existing student capacity and will feature separate classrooms for each grade level, computer and science labs, a library, literacy and tutoring centers, a health center, and a multi-purpose room that will serve as cafeteria, gym and auditorium.
