Final windows installed at airport's new concessions area
Sunset Cove, one of the more prominent features of San Diego International Airport's Green Build project, has assumed its general final shape as construction workers installed the last windows Tuesday on the exterior of what will be the airport’s newest concessions area.
Construction of Sunset Cove ó part of the $1 billion expansion of Terminal 2 — took more than six months, from construction of the curtain wall holding the glass panels in place to Tuesday's milestone.
Sunset Cove will be home to a wide variety of new dining options when open in summer 2013, according to a release from the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.
Featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, the structure rises to 50 feet above the ground.
The Green Build project, which includes the terminal expansion and the building of a dual-level roadway separating pick-up and drop-off traffic, is in the middle of its heaviest construction period before its expected completion roughly one year from now.
When finished, the 460,000-square-foot terminal expansion is expected to help the airport handle a projected doubling of passengers by 2030.
