The Southern Caregiver Resource Center (SCRC), a San Diego-based nonprofit that helps families care for military veterans, is launching a new initiative on July 1.
The Wounded Warrior Family Caregiver Outreach Program (WWFCOP) is a specialized program targeting family caregivers of veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan suffering from traumatic brain injury coupled with post-traumatic stress disorder.
A group of local businesses supporting the WWFCOP include APT Companies, J&C Carpet Company, For Rent Media Solutions, Cort Furniture Rental, HD Supply, Moen, MRI Software and the San Diego County Apartment Association.
The group is hosting a pre-National Apartment Association Conference reception on the USS Midway Museum on June 19 at 8 p.m. in support of the WWFCOP. About 1,000 people are expected to attend the event and all of the proceeds will help fund WWFCOP.
Established in 1987, SCRC is the leading provider of comprehensive support services for family caregivers in San Diego County, serving 30,000 families annually.
Locally, San Diego is home to 30,000 Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans, the largest concentration in the country.
