Living Coast Discovery Center wins $25,000 grant from SDG&E

San Diego Gas & Electric has awarded the Living Coast Discovery Center, a nonprofit zoo and aquarium located on San Diego Bay in Chula Vista, a $25,000 grant as part of the energy company's 2012 Environmental Champions Initiative.

The Environmental Champions funds will support the center's K-12 education program, which provides guided tours for thousands of local school children throughout the year with an emphasis on watershed protection, recycling, pollution, and native plants and animals.

SDG&E's Environmental Champions Initiative has contributed $1 million to local environmental nonprofit organizations in San Diego and Orange counties in 2012. The program supports nonprofit programs that engage and educate young people in the community as stewards of the environment in the areas of ecosystem awareness, environmental conservation, and energy and water efficiency.
