Investment firm buying Bumble Bee Foods

The British investment firm Lion Capital LLP said it has agreed to buy Bumble Bee Foods from private equity firm Centre Partners Management LLC for an undisclosed sum.

Lion, which is based in London, said late Thursday it expects to complete the deal by the end of the year.

Packaged seafood maker Bumble Bee is based in San Diego and has 1,700 employees in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.

The company was founded in 1897 and makes seafood products sold under the Bumble Bee, Clover Leaf, Brunswick, Snow's, Beach Cliff, King Oscar and Sweet Sue brands. It generated more than $940 million in net revenue in 2009.
