On The Agenda: February kicks off with a variety of events

The Super Bowl came and went and now it’s time to network, listen and learn at some of the local business community’s events.

Hear San Diego Mayor Bob Filner speak about his priorities for San Diego at NAIOP San Diego’s, the commercial real estate development association, seventh annual breakfast on Tuesday. Filner's focus on neighborhoods, job creation and making government services efficient and effective, as well as setting a new tone for the city, will be part of the dialogue at this annual breakfast. The event runs from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the La Jolla Marriott on 4240 La Jolla Village Drive in La Jolla.

The Associated General Contractors San Diego chapter hosts a workshop on Tuesday. Attorneys Mary Pendleton and Jeffrey Baird will address legislation that changes commercial construction contract’s indemnity provisions. The workshop will demonstrate the practical ramifications and provide guidance to make the new law more workable and mutually beneficial for prime contractors, subcontractors and the entire construction industry. The event runs from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the AGC San Diego Chapter office on 6212 Ferris Square.

Learn “The Art of Multitasking: Developing Business while Maintaining a Balanced Life” at the Lawyers Club of San Diego Balance Committee’s First Tuesday meeting. The discussion will address how busy lawyers can network and develop business while juggling the profession and family commitments. The meeting runs from noon to 1:15 p.m. at Jones Day on 12265 El Camino Real in the third floor conference room.

Find out what’s happening in the commercial real estate field at the CREW Who happy hour on Wednesday. CREW San Diego hosts this networking event in an informal and casual venue for attendees to talk with peers, meet CREW board members and committee chairs and find out who to know and who to meet. The happy hour runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the DPR Construction office on 5010 Shoreham Place.

The Thomas Jefferson School of Law presents, “The Employment of Latinos in the Law” on Wednesday. Attendees will meet Latino lawyers, learn different career paths in law, network, find a mentor and learn interests and strengths to best serve a law degree. The event runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law on 1155 Island Ave.

The Mortgage Bankers Association’s Commercial Real Estate Finance/Multifamily Housing Convention and Expo 2013 runs from Feb. 3 through Feb. 6 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. More than 2,500 commercial and multifamily real estate finance professionals will gather for the event, which features meetings, speaker sessions and an exhibit hall.

The Thomas Jefferson School of Law also hosts “Dedication,” featuring Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg from the U.S. Supreme Court. Ginsburg will be the honored guest at a dedication ceremony for the new Thomas Jefferson School of Law campus on Thursday. The event runs from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Historic Balboa Theater of 868 Fourth Ave.

The San Diego American Heart Association hosts its Go Red for Women luncheon on Friday. The association asks attendees to share the commitment to make it a mission to fight heart disease in women, and together help save lives. The event runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines on 10950 N. Torrey Pines Road.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will also be the featured guest at the Association of Business Trial Lawyers event on Friday. The event will feature a conversation with Ginsburg, who was nominated by former President Clinton as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court and took her seat on Aug. 10, 1993. The event runs from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the U.S. Grant on 326 Broadway.

The San Diego Convention Center hosts the Club Managers Association of America’s Club Business Expo from Feb. 8 through Feb. 9. The event brings together general managers, CEOs and COOs from clubs around the world. Management teams from clubs including country, city, yacht, military, athletic and golf facilities convene to make purchasing decisions, network, attend educational sessions and track industry trends.

The Convention Center also hosts the Golf Industry Show and Education Conferences from Feb. 4 through Feb. 8. Owners and operators of golf facilities and professional members of the golf course industry will gather for an event featuring exhibit space with products and solutions for golf course and facility management. The Convention Center is located on 111 W. Harbor Drive.
