San Diego’s December unemployment rate fell to its lowest level since September 2008, according to preliminary data from the state. Statewide unemployment also dropped, from 8.5 percent in November to an 8.3 percent seasonally-adjusted rate in December.
San Diego County’s labor force reached 1,596,900 in December, with unemployment dropping to 6.4 percent, down from 6.8 percent in November and from 8.1 percent in December 2012. The county had the 11th lowest unemployment rate in the state.
Statewide, nonfarm payroll jobs increased by 13,600 during December for a total gain of 922,500 jobs since the recovery began in February 2010.
The U.S. unemployment rate decreased to 6.7 percent in December.
