The San Diego City Council has approved new regulations for food trucks over the objections of some owners who claim the rules will be bad for business.
The main effect of the ordinance passed Monday will be to disallow trucks in the Gaslamp Quarter, Little Italy and some beach areas.
Late-night operations in dense urban areas will be prohibited where the trucks are parked close to homes.
The council took action because there were no municipal code provisions governing trucks serving food to the general public on private property, particularly in commercial areas.
The new rules go into effect in April.
