San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced on Thursday the appointment of Herman Parker, formerly of the county of Santa Barbara, as the city's Park & Recreation Department director.
Parker managed Santa Barbara County's parks, beaches, aquatics, housing, libraries, community development and county arts commission as that county's director of community services. He has a total of 28 years of public sector experience in developing, managing, and implementing services, events and policies, according to a release.
Before working in Santa Barbara, Parker served in various capacities for the city of Temecula for 20 years. He began his career in recreation as a supervisor for the county of Los Angeles, serving underserved youth.
Parker has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from California State University, Long Beach.
