Gov. Jerry Brown recently appointed four county residents to serve on the board of directors for the 22nd District Agricultural Association, which runs the San Diego County Fair.
The board runs all operations at the state-owned fairgrounds in Del Mar.
Frederick Schenk, Russell S. Penniman IV, Lisa Barkett and Kathlyn Mead were appointed to serve four-year terms.
Schenk is a partner with the law firm Casey Gerry Schenk Francavilla Blatt & Penfield. He has served on the board since 2011 and was elected president in 2013. His new term will expire in January 2018, and he will continue to serve as president until January 2016.
Penniman, of Rancho Santa Fe has served on the board since 2003. He has been a rear admiral in the U.S. Navy Reserve since 2008, where he has served since 1994, and he has been a managing member of Penniman and Associates LLC since 2000.
Barkett, of La Jolla, has served since 2011. She was vice president of Merjan Financial Corp. from 1989 to 2013. She is a member of the University of Southern California board of trustees and the Rady Children’s Hospital board of trustees.
Mead, of Escondido, was executive vice president and chief operations officer at the California Endowment from 2007 to 2014. She also was president and CEO at the Council of Community Clinics from 2006 to 2007.
The 22nd DAA produces five events each year: The San Diego County Fair, the Del Mar National Horse Show, Professional Bull Riding (PBR), The Scream Zone and Holiday of Lights. In addition, the fairgrounds hosts more than 350 events annually.
