Souplantation, Sweet Tomatoes deemed largest 'green' restaurant chain

Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes Restaurants have earned a "Certified Green Restaurants" designation from the Green Restaurant Association, making them the country's largest restaurant chain to receive the environmental honor for all locations.

The certification, the second time they have been recognized by GRA, signifies that each Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes location implemented 40 environmental steps to meet the GRA's environmental standards of energy, water, waste, chemicals, packaging, and food. Some of the steps are: offering a menu that includes more than 30 percent vegetarian entrées; installing water-efficient spray valves; and recycling enough to save 12.5 million pounds of garbage from the landfill.
