Valentine's Day auction benefits American Heart Association

Can't find a date for Valentine's Day? Well, head downtown to the Andaz Hotel for Andaz Goes Red: A Bachelor Auction benefiting The American Heart Association's Go Red Campaign at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 14, where more than a dozen bachelors will take the stage.

Participating bachelors include a mixture of eligible, career-driven men who live in San Diego and are over the age of 21.

Winning bidders will be provided a pre-coordinated, fully complimentary date with their bachelor to take place the evening of Thursday, Feb. 21 Daters will be presented with a wine tasting experience in the Andaz Wine Bar, dinner at barleymash and an option to extend their evening with a VIP experience at Ivy Nightclub at Andaz.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a bachelor meet and greet, a cocktail hour with drink specials and complimentary appetizers. At 8 p.m. the event will move downstairs to the Ivy Nightclub, where the auction will begin and run until 9 p.m.

Plant-based restaurant Native Food Café announced the Jan. 29 grand opening of its first San Diego County location in Encinitas Village.

Former San Diegans Andrea McGinty and partner Daniel Dolan are owners of the fast-growing casual fast food company. "Our recipes are universally enjoyed by meat eaters and non-meat eaters alike – in fact, 95 percent of our guests are not vegan."

McGinty and Dolan plan to open another six locations nationwide by the end of the year – half of those in San Diego. The company is headquartered in Chicago, with locations throughout California as well as Illinois, Oregon and Colorado. Encinitas is the company's 14th location.

The Village of Del Mar has opened its new Del Mar Community and Visitor Center across from city hall.

Staffed by the Del Mar Village Association, the center will provide information on hotels, dining, special events and activities in Del Mar.

A grand opening celebration is planned from 5 to 7 p.m., Feb. 21. Residents interested in volunteering at the new center should email info@delmarmainstreet.com

Co-owners Sam and Jag Kambo of Gaslamp restaurant Royal India will be opening a Del Mar location on Jan. 15 on Valley Center Drive in the Vons shopping center.

"We've had guests come all the way to our downtown restaurant from North County for years now, asking us when we would open a location in their area," said Sam Kambo. "For quite a while, we've been on the lookout for the perfect location to open another Royal India and we're extremely confident that we found it here, in the heart of Del Mar."

Carlsbad's West Inn & Suites was chosen as one of the Top 25 Small Hotels & Motels for Families in the United States by TripAdvisor in its 2013 Travelers Choice awards.

Based on reviews collected in a single year, West Inn was the only San Diego hotel and one of only two California hotels to make the list.
