Terra closing Hillcrest doors, heading to La Mesa

After 13 years at its current Hillcrest location, farm-to-table themed Terra restaurant is closing its doors March 20 to move and re-open in La Mesa as Terra American Bistro.

"This is going to sound cliché, but it really is bittersweet," said executive chef/owner Jeff Rossman. "I've loved being a part of the Hillcrest community for the last 13 years, yet our location is not one a person happens by."

The new space, at 7091 El Cajon Blvd., will use reclaimed materials throughout and will also have a hanging wall garden. Rossman will take part in a recycling and composting program and the venue will have its own parking lot.


February marks the 22nd anniversary of craft beer in San Diego and Karl Strauss Brewing Co. is celebrating the occasion with a new event and limited release brew.

Join Karl Strauss for its inaugural "Changing of the Barrels" event at the main brewery from 5-8 p.m., Feb. 2 in Pacific Beach. The event also kicks off the company's new anniversary barrel-aging series, offering the public the chance to taste the 22nd Anniversary beer unblended, side by side with the blended version that will be released later in the month.

Guests will also be the first and only to taste the 23rd Anniversary brew before it goes into barrels for 12 months. "Changing of the Barrels" is limited to 60 tickets and will include beer and appetizers, live music by the local band Blackout Party, and a night of hanging with the Karl Strauss brew crew. Guests will also receive a bottle of the 22nd Anniversary Vanilla Imperial Stout and a commemorative snifter glass.

Recently designated as one of California's top "green hotels" by the California Department of General Services, the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa and Marina has also been awarded the program's "Leadership Level" status for its continued commitment to sustainability and conservation practices.

One of the ways the hotel has demonstrated its commitment to being more kind to the environment is its Meet and Be Green program, which requires meeting planners and attendees to "go green" during their meeting, such as sourcing products with 100 percent recycled content, finding local suppliers, and maximizing efforts to reduce waste.

Gaslamp Rendezvous, a French bistro, bakery and bar is now open in the Gaslamp Quarter at 551 J St.
