Beer & Sake Festival returns June 23

The Japan Society of San Diego and Tijuana hosts the ninth annual Beer & Sake Festival on from 6 to 9 p.m., June 23, at the San Diego Marriott Del Mar, bringing together San Diego's top chefs to showcase their Japanese culinary and sake traditions for the San Diego community.

The festival will highlight imported Japanese beers, local microbrews and a vast variety of sake. In addition to the tastings, the festival will feature culinary creations from restaurants including Top of the Market, Sushi on a Roll, The Marine Room, Alchemy, Shimbashi Izakaya, Negai, Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens and more.

Admission is $60/person or $40 for members of Japan Society of San Diego & Tijuana.

Leaders in San Diego's hospitality industry are joining forces to raise awareness about childhood hunger. Hospitality for Hunger's first annual barbecue and canned food/donation drive will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at Mosaic Wine Bar in North Park. All proceeds directly benefit Feeding America San Diego.

The event will feature food samples from local chefs Amy DiBase, chef consultant; Anthony Sinsay of Harney Sushi and Olivier Bioteau of Farm House Cafť and beverage samples from Karl Strauss and Summerland Winery. Guests will also enjoy live music and children's arts and crafts throughout the afternoon.

During the event, families are encouraged to give back by decorating bags for FASD's Backpack program or learning about the organization's Mobile Pantry, which distributes food to families in rural areas. In lieu of an entrance fee, all guests are asked to donate canned food or nonperishable items at the event.

Later that evening, Hospitality for Hunger will host a special Industry Celebration & Fundraiser from 6 p.m. to midnight at Mosaic. Guests will enjoy tapas, local microbrews, wine, live music and a silent auction. Admission to evening event is $20/person.

The San Diego Convention Center received a 2010 Inner Circle Award from Association Meetings magazine. This is the fourth consecutive year that readers of the publication, which targets CEOs, association directors, and meeting and exhibit managers, voted them one of the best in the industry when it comes to servicing meetings and conventions.

A total of 70 Inner Circle winners in the hotel/resort/conference center; convention center; and CVB categories were selected. The award takes into consideration food and beverage service, meeting rooms, catering and convention services and audio and visual/tech support. Fifteen convention centers including the San Diego Convention Center won this year.

ResortCom International, which provides resort management, rental reservations, travel & financial services to the vacation ownership industry has announced Daniel Ortiz at chief financial officer.

Ortiz will be directly responsible for financial operations for the company's services and technological division and will be involved in ResortCom's strategic planning, projects and business development efforts.
