L'Auberge Del Mar turns off lights to support Earth Hour

In support of World Wildlife Fund's Earth Hour, L'Auberge Del Mar is turning off the lights from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on March 31. Hotel guests will be provided with "green" flashlights and asked to turn off guestroom lights for the hour. In the Lobby Lounge, lights will be dimmed and patrons can enjoy specially priced wines by the glass.

"Through our corporate Destination Earth program, our hotel is committed to lessening our footprint and supporting earth-friendly initiatives," said Director of Sales & Marketing Francine Williams. "Earth hour is a simple way to do a bit of good for our environment and guests can have a little fun with it along the way."



The San Diego Chapter of the California Restaurant Association is hosting a seminar titled, "Boost your Profits with Accurate Recipe Costing & Menu Engineering" from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., April 25 at the SDG&E Innovation Center.

The speaker will be Mark Kelnhofer, president and CEO of Return on Ingredients. Cost to attend is $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Register at calrest.org



Coming up this Saturday, as well as Saturday, April 21, Café Japengo is offering couples the chance to roll up their sleeves and master the art of sushi-making.

For $60/person, the class offers tutorials on how to handle sticky rice and how to form a roll and hand roll; hands-on sushi making and tasting; a brief history of sushi; sake tastings and more.

Rancho Valencia has added Master Court Sommelier Jayson Knack, as the newest member of their food and beverage team as their director of restaurants.

While the hotel continues to undergo their $20 million renovation, Knack will be leading a series of in-house training seminars dedicated to preparing staff to guide each of the properties' guests in a knowledgeable and passionate way. Their food and beverage program will emphasize a "hands-on" approach through wine, beer and spirit pairings, blendings and blind tastings.



The Center for Community Solutions is hosting its 13th annual Tea on the Town fundraiser featuring television actress Meredith Baxter, April 27, at the San Diego Marriott Mission Valley.

Tickets for event are $125 person and can be purchased online at ccssd.org. Funds raised by the event will be used to benefit a full range of domestic violence and sexual assault crisis intervention programs.
