San Diego Foundation board adds three members

The San Diego Foundation has added three new members to its 30-person board of governors, according to a release.

New board member Yamila M. Ayad, who co-founded a homebuyersí education clinic last year and is a member of the Housing Opportunities Collaborative Board of San Diego, also serves as president of Mission Home Loans.

Scott Peters, the chairman of the Unified Port of San Diego, previously served as the deputy county counsel to San Diego County.

Derek Quackenbush, who has 20 years of general business experience, is vice president of Finance and Administration at Concerro, a hospital workforce management system.

The San Diego Foundation works to promote charitable giving in San Diego. Since its inception, the foundation has given $700 million to the San Diego regionís nonprofit community.


UnitedHealthcare invests $5 million

UnitedHealthcare recently invested $5 million in Volunteers of Americaís Southwest California affiliate. According to a release, UnitedHealthcare bought Volunteers of America’s tax-exempt revenue bonds through the California Health Care Investment program, and Volunteers of America’s Southwest California affiliate will use the bonds’ proceeds to revamp and equip a new South Bay Treatment and Rehabilitation Center. The center’s two buildings will be used to house and rehabilitate those addicted to drugs and alcohol.

“Organizations like Volunteers of America of Southwest California do an exceptional job of helping serve some of our most vulnerable communities,” U.S. Congressman Bob Filner said. “These funds will go a long way to making sure people are able to get the treatment they need.”

UnitedHealthcare, which serves more than 38 million people, is an organization focused on simplifying the health care process.


National MS Society names Justin Reckers to board

Justin Reckers, of Leucadia, has recently joined the board of trustees of the National Multiple Sclerosis Societyís Pacific South Coast Chapter, according to a release. Reckers, who currently works as the director of financial planning at Pacific Wealth Management of San Diego, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis two years ago.

In November, Pacific Wealth Management will serve as the main sponsor for the 25th annual Multiple Sclerosis Dinner Auction.

The Pacific South Coast Chapter serves 45,000 people in the San Diego, Orange and Imperial counties who are affected by multiple sclerosis.
