Pacific Shores golf tourney raises $10,000 for San Diego Hospice

San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine recently received $10,000 from proceeds raised by the fifth annual charity golf tournament of Ocean Beachís Pacific Shores Cocktail Lounge. Nearly 100 golfers played in the charitable event, hosted by Riverwalk Golf Club in Mission Valley, to support the San Diego Hospice, according to a release.

For the second straight year, proceeds from the golf tournament will be designated to support Camp Erin San Diego. The camp is an annual weekend summer camp open to children ages 6-17 who have been impacted by the death of a loved one.

San Diego Hospice, the first nonprofit hospice in San Diego County and now the largest, cares for 1,000 patients and their families throughout the county.

Miracle Babies to host 5K run/walk fundraiser in Mission Bay

Miracle Babies, a San Diego nonprofit that provides financial assistance and support to families with newborns in the neonatal intensive care unit, will have its fourth annual 5K Family Run/Walk for Hope fundraiser on Sunday at 10 a.m. at Marinerís Point in Mission Bay Park.

Following the walk, participants and spectators will enjoy live music, food, drinks, kidsí activities and more.

The registration fee is $30 for adults and free for children aged 12 and under, according to a release. Participants may register through or on location on the day of the event. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

Sponsorship opportunities are also available for $500, $1,000, $2,500, $5,000 and $10,000. In-kind donations and silent auction items are also being accepted; for more information contact or call 619-400-4928.

Tri-City Hospital Foundation to raise funds at 2012 Baile Diamond Ball

Tri-City Hospital Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, has scheduled its 2012 Baile Diamond Ball for Saturday at Park Hyatt Aviara Resort in Carlsbad, according to a release.

Last yearís gala – Tri-City Hospital Foundation’s milestone Golden Anniversary Ball – celebrated the hospital’s 50th anniversary and raised $560,000, the largest amount to date.

“For more than 30 years, the gala has provided financial support to help us create services, build facilities and provide exceptional health care for tens of thousands of North County residents," said Larry Anderson, president and CEO of Tri-City Medical Center.

DC-based Robertson Foundation announces fellowships for UCSD grad students

Several University of California, San Diego graduate students will receive full financial support over the next few years thanks to a $500,000 gift from the Washington, D.C.-based Robertson Foundation for Government, according to a release.

Established in 2010, the Robertson Foundation invests several million dollars annually to provide funding for scholarships, graduate fellowships, mid-career training programs and other initiatives to address the talent needs of the federal government in the areas of foreign policy, national security and international affairs. It is one of the only private foundations in the country to support students interested in pursuing federal government careers.

Each gift is pledged over four years and covers expenses for students to complete their masterís degree at UCSD’s School of International Relations and Pacific Studies. As a requirement of the Robertson fellows program, students commit to working for the federal government for at least three of the first five years after graduation.
