Randall Rader, chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, will show off his musical chops Thursday night at the House of Blues with his band, DeNovo. The band also includes University of Washington professor Sean O'Connor and Matthew Bryan of the World Intellectual Property Organization.
The event, which will include dinner and drinks, will be held from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Bands from NuVasive (Nasdaq: NUVA) and Qualcomm Inc. (Nasdaq: QCOM) will open. John Whealan, dean of intellectual property studies at George Washington School of Law will be the master of ceremonies.
Rader is in town as part of the University of San Diego's second annual Patent Law Conference, which will have panels on Friday. Rader will give the keynote address Friday at 12:30 p.m. Other panelists Friday will include U.S. District judges Marilyn Huff and Janis Sammartino and Magistrate Judge Cathy Ann Bencivengo as well as professors Colleen Chien, Mark Lemley, Robert Merges, Shine Tu and Whealan.
