On the Agenda: After a long holiday weekend, a full slate of activities

Now that your belly is full from Thanksgiving celebrations, it’s time to fill your mind with knowledge from one of San Diego’s plethora of events this week. Topics range from philanthropy in business to an enterprise tax credit workshop, ensuring there’s something for everyone to add to their plate.

San Diego’s chapter of the Forensic Expert Witness Association hosts its bi-monthly meeting on Tuesday, focusing on working effectively with lawyers and “What they can expect from you and what you should expect from them.” J. Scott Scheper from Seltzer Caplan McMahon Vitek will share his insights on what contributes to making an expert more effective. He will discuss what he looks for in an expert witness, what experts should look for in return from attorneys, and how experts and attorneys can work together to deliver exceptional work product and value to the conflict resolution process. Networking starts at 5 p.m. and the presentation kicks off at 6 p.m. at the Four Points by Sheraton hotel on 8110 Aero Drive.

Also on Tuesday, Hera Hub and the San Diego Women’s Foundation are teaming up to present a panel on incorporating philanthropy into your business. Speakers include Bethel Nathan, owner of Ceremonies by Bethel; Christy White, owner of Christy White Associates; and Felena Hanson, founder of Hera Hub. They will discuss why philanthropy is beneficial to a business plan and how they effectively tell their philanthropic business story to clients and stakeholders at the Sorrento Valley Hera Hub at 9710 Scranton Road from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The San Diego Regional Economic Development Corp. is sponsoring a State Enterprise Zone and Federal Business Tax Credit Workshop on Wednesday. The morning session, from 9 to 11 a.m., will be at the Chula Vista City Hall Council Chambers on 276 Fourth Ave., and the afternoon session from 2 to 4 p.m. will be held at AMN Healthcare on 12400 High Bluff Drive. The meeting is oriented toward chief financial officers, tax professionals and accountants, but others interested are welcome. Updates to tax laws and the facts about Enterprise Credits will be discussed.

The Lawyers Club of San Diego hosts a Speed Mentoring Event on Thursday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Basic. The event is open to attorneys as well as law students, recent graduates and new admittees who are Lawyers Club members. Basic will offer happy hour drink specials and complimentary appetizers at 410 10th Ave. downtown.

Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, it’s time to get in the holiday spirit. The Escondido Chamber of Commerce is kicking off the season with a Community in Unity celebration of the business community in Escondido. The soiree will be at the Escondido City Hall Dome from 5:31 p.m. -- the time that City Hall is closed for business -- to 8:31 p.m. on Thursday. Bring your coworkers and mingle with fellow businesses during an evening of local food, drink and merriment. Local music groups will provide entertainment, and toy and pajama donations will be accepted for the Escondido Police Department's Christmas Party for children who are victims of abuse and neglect, and Isabella’s Foundation for Rady Children’s Hospital.

The San Diego Convention Center is hosting three conferences this week, beginning with the Pri-Med Access Fall 2012 seminar on Thursday and Friday. Physicians can earn continuing education credits across a spectrum of health topics free of charge at this event. The American Epilepsy Society is also holding its convention and trade show at the Convention Center from Friday, Nov. 30 through Tuesday, Dec. 4. This facilitates the exchange of current findings in epilepsy research through symposia, lectures, poster and platform presentations. The University of Phoenix’s fall 2012 graduation on Saturday, Dec. 1 closes out the week at the Convention Center.
