Witkin Awards to be held March 7

The San Diego Law Library Foundation will host the Bernard E. Witkin Award Ceremony March 7 at the Admiral Kidd Catering and Conference Center.

The annual awards recognize distinguished service by members of the San Diego legal community.

This year's awardees include San Diego Superior Court Presiding Judge Robert J. Trentacosta (for judicial service), attorney Matthew C. Hervey (public service), the late professor C. Hugh Friedman (service to education), and McKenna Long & Aldridge senior counsel Robert G. Steiner (legal professional).

“For many years, the Witkin Awards have recognized the valuable contributions of members of the San Diego legal community," said William Kammer, president of the foundation. "We are pleased to continue this signature event.”

Attorney Dan Lawton will serve as emcee for the evening. The event is open to the public and tickets are $125 each. Tables of eight can be purchased for a discounted rate of $800. Sponsorship and donation opportunities are available. Proceeds support the San Diego Law Library.

Witkin had a nearly 70-year legal career that included an impressive range of activities that took place as the law of California was experiencing exponential growth in both size and complexity.

Witkin's impact on California's law, and on the law of other states, was enormous. He served as Supreme Court clerk and Reporter of Decisions and was a tireless advocate for legal reform. His treatises have been cited by the California Supreme Court and Courts of Appeal more than 20,000 times.
