Scherling joins World Trade Center SD board

San Diego attorney John B. Scherling has been approved to join the World Trade Center San Diego's board of directors.

Scherling is a partner with Sughrue Mion PLLC, focusing on litigation and resolution of intellectual property disputes, primarily relating to patents, trademarks and trade secrets for Sughrue's domestic and international clients.

Scherling completed his undergraduate studies at Iowa State University (B.S. with honors and distinction) and received his J.D. from Vanderbilt University, where he was Order of the Coif and associate editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review.

"I am honored to be invited to join the WTCSD board of directors," Scherling said. "Through my practice at Sughrue, I have the privilege of working with clients from all over the world in protecting their intellectual property, and I look forward to bringing that experience and perspective to this international trade association."

Scherling previously served as an assistant U.S. attorney in San Diego, during which time he received numerous awards from the U.S. Department of Justice and the Department of State. He also served as the co-chair of the Attorney Representative Committee for the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of California and as a member of the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference Lawyer Representative Coordinating Committee from 2008 to 2010.
