San Diego officials say they will continue pursuing pending cases against city marijuana dispensaries, reversing previous orders from Mayor Bob Filner to drop them.
A news release says the City Council voted 7-0 in closed session Tuesday and the mayor agreed to continue enforcing local zoning laws that don't allow for dispensaries.
Earlier in January, Filner ordered San Diego law enforcement and the city attorney's office to back off code enforcement, saying his support of medical marijuana was clear during his campaign.
Filner is expected to introduce an ordinance to regulate the dispensaries within the next month, limiting dispensaries to specific areas away from schools, churches, playgrounds and other facilities.
More than 200 pot shops have been closed in San Diego and Imperial counties under federal prosecution since 2011.
