Salt Lake City Comic Con name registered as mark despite suit

Don Farr Productions LLC, the organizer of the Salt Lake City Comic Con, successfully registered the event's name as a U.S. trademark, according to the database of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

The name is at issue in a lawsuit filed last year by the San Diego Comic Convention. The California group said it has held its annual gathering of comics and pop-culture fans for more than 40 years and has registered a number of trademarks associated with the event.

The Utah group filed its trademark application in July 2014. According to the patent office, the mark was registered on July 14, 2015.

The next status conference in the trademark suit is set for Aug. 14 in San Diego, according to the case docket.

The case is San Diego Comic Convention v. Dan Farr Productions, 3:14-cv-01865, U.S. District Court, Southern District of California (San Diego).
