I Love A Clean San Diego, the San Diego County Bar Association and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants are teaming up to host a shoreline cleanup of Playa Pacifica in Mission Bay this Saturday from 9-11 a.m.
The cleanup is part of the San Diego Bar's "Community Service -- Lawyers Giving Back" campaign, a year-long initiative designed to promote pro bono work, volunteerism and stewardship in the community. I Love A Clean San Diego, meanwhile, has been promoting volunteerism and community action to raise awareness about environmental problems facing San Diego for more than 55 years.
In the beach cleanup, SDCBA officials said, volunteers can spread out and make a clean sweep of an entire area in just a few hours, while sharing a valuable community service and educational experience together.
Details about other upcoming volunteer opportunities, as well as environmental resources, can be found on ILACSD's Web site, cleansd.org. For more information on the SDCBA's community service campaign, visit sdcba.org/lawyersgivingback.
California Society of Certified Public Accountants can be contacted at calcpa.org.
Thomas Jefferson School of Law associate dean and general counsel Jeff Joseph has been named as one of this year's recipients of the highly prestigious Bernard E. Witkin Award, presented by the San Diego Law Library Justice Foundation (LLJF).
The LLJF selected Joseph as "Educator of the Year" based on his reputation as a trial attorney, his reputation as an educator and his contributions to the law. The Bernard E. Witkin, Esq. Awards Dinner will be held on March 4, 2010, at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina.
Other honorees include Hon. Sharon Majors-Lewis for her distinguished service as an attorney; state Sen. Christine Kehoe for her distinguished service as community leader; and Hon. John J. Hargrove (ret.) for his distinguished service as a judge.
"I am very grateful to the Law Library Justice Foundation for this honor and to Thomas Jefferson School of Law for the opportunity to teach," Joseph said. "Most of all, I wish to thank the countless number of practicing lawyers who took a class from me over the past 20 years. Their passion to learn inspired my passion to teach."
The Witkin Award Dinner is the San Diego County Law Library Justice Foundation's annual fundraising event. A successful event will enable the Law Library to purchase the equipment for its new adaptive technology center for its visually impaired users, according to the awards committee.
