Randy Berholtz is the executive vice president, general counsel and secretary of Apricus Biosciences Inc., a public pharmaceutical company in San Diego. He is the former vice president, general counsel and secretary of the ACON Group, a group of U.S. and Chinese life science companies, and prior to that was the acting general counsel and secretary of Nanogen Inc., a public genomics company. He was also previously the chief operating officer and general counsel of IngleWood Ventures, a life sciences venture capital fund. Prior to that, he worked at Heller Ehrman and Cooley Godward in San Diego.
Berholtz is also the vice president of programs for the Association of Corporate Counsel and serves on the group’s executive committee and board. He also serves on the advisory board of the Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences at the Claremont Colleges.
He has taught as an adjunct professor of law at Thomas Jefferson School of Law and the University of San Diego School of Law, and has also lectured at the Rady School of Business at the University of California, San Diego, and at KGI. He has mentored many law, business and life science students over the years, and has helped many secure full-time jobs.
He is a graduate of the LEAD San Diego Program and is the first in his family to graduate from high school and attend college.
Berholtz lives in Carmel Valley and is married to Rachel, his wife of 26 years and has two daughters, Harriet (20) at Claremont McKenna College and Emma (16) at the Francis Parker School.
