Tuari Bigknife serves as chief legal officer of Viejas Enterprises and general counsel with the Viejas Office of Legal Affairs in Alpine. Bigknife is responsible for handling the legal affairs of the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians, and provides operational oversight and guidance to Viejas’ business enterprises, including Viejas Casino, Viejas Outlet Center, Viejas Entertainment & Production, Ma Tar Awa RV Park and Alpine Springs RV Park. Bigknife also oversees Viejas’ interests in land holdings and three San Diego radio stations.
Prior to joining the Viejas, Bigknife worked in private practice throughout the western United States, providing legal representation to Fortune 500 corporations, small local businesses and individuals.
Bigknife is a member of the International Masters of Gaming Law, a member of the Association of Corporate Counsel and a 2006 graduate of LEAD San Diego. He is a past vice-chairman of the board of trustees for California Indian Legal Services and an active contributor to local charities.
Bigknife is a descendent of the Cherokee and Shawnee tribes located in Oklahoma, and is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. His educational background include a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California, Irvine, and a law degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Bigknife resides in San Diego County with his wife Susan and their children Teya, Kathryn and Chayton.
