Blake Bilstad

Provide Commerce Inc.

Since 2004, Blake T. Bilstad has served as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of Provide Commerce Inc., an e-commerce company that specializes in the delivery of flowers and other gift items direct from suppliers to consumers through its brands ProFlowers, RedEnvelope, Cherry Moon Farms, Personal Creations and Shari’s Berries. He counsels executives and business teams on all major business and legal matters, assisting in the company’s highly profitable growth from $95 million in annual net sales to more than $630 million at present.

Bilstad oversees the legal aspects of all litigation and risk management issues, mergers and acquisitions, commercial contracts, intellectual property, privacy and Internet law, corporate governance, securities, employment/benefits, public affairs and governmental compliance matters. In particular, he closed Provide Commerce’s acquisition by Liberty Media Corporation in 2006, as well as the company’s more recent acquisitions of RedEnvelope in 2008 and Personal Creations in 2010.

Prior to joining Provide Commerce, from 1999 to 2004 Bilstad worked for, a pioneering online music company that he helped take public, and then its eventual acquirer Vivendi Universal, a French-owned media conglomerate, consolidating 38 U.S. Internet companies to form “VUNet USA,” and serving most recently as the group’s senior vice president, legal affairs and secretary.

Prior to, from 1995 to 1999 Bilstad was a business associate at the law firm of Cooley Godward LLP, where he counseled emerging technology companies ranging from startups to publicly-traded corporations in the software, Internet, entertainment and biotech industries. In 1994, he clerked for the U.S. Department of Justice, Antitrust Division, working primarily on the Ticketmaster (Pearl Jam) and Microsoft matters.

Bilstad has served in leadership positions with nonprofits such as the Foundation and San Diego Social Venture Partners, on several subsidiary boards of directors, and on the advisory board for, a travel planning startup.

Bilstad holds a J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School, where he was the executive editor of the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology and winner of the Irving Oberlin Memorial Award writing prize, and holds a B.A. magna cum laude from Duke University.
