John Schnurer has been litigation and trial counsel for technology companies such as ATEN International Co. Ltd., HTC Corp., Largan Precision Co. Ltd., ASUSTek Computer Inc., Samsung Electronics and Monolithic Power Systems Inc. After litigating three patent lawsuits against IBM for his client ASUSTeK, he achieved a very favorable settlement, which permitted ASUSTeK to continue its operations worldwide without interruption. One lawsuit was in the U.S. International Trade Commission, where he won at trial and on review, the Commission confirmed the trial determination. In the Northern District of California, he was able to obtain a stay of the case after defending ASUSTek there for over a year. In the final one in the Southern District of California, he asserted ASUSTeK patents against IBM and obtained a favorable claim construction ruling. He also won a patent case for Samsung Electronics against Renesas Technology Corp., preventing Renesas from obtaining an exclusion order barring the importation of Samsung's DDR2 DRAM memory into the United States.
Schnurer litigates and tries cases in courts throughout the country, including Section 337 investigations before the International Trade Commission. In addition to developing and executing global patent litigation strategies, he prepares, prosecutes and secures patent protection, lead and conduct large patent portfolio due diligence studies and provide strategic intellectual property counseling. He joined Perkins from Fish & Richardson. He also was an attorney with the U.S. Air Force and a special assistant U.S. attorney with the Department of Justice. He formerly worked as an electrical engineer at Advanced Linear Devices, specializing in low-voltage, high-speed analog integrated circuits.
Schnurer is a member of the International Trade Commission Lawyers Association, the San Diego Intellectual Property Law Association and the Hispanic National Bar Association.
