Bing Ai's practice focuses on patent prosecution in U.S. and foreign jurisdictions, patent counseling and strategy, patent portfolio management, freedom to operate analyses, patent validity and infringement issues, patent due diligence and support for patent litigation and patent due diligence for corporate financing, investments, mergers and acquisitions. He advises individuals, startups, universities and research institutes, and multinational corporations. Ai assists clients on patents and other technology-related legal issues in China, including patent litigations.
Ai was a physicist before practicing law. He conducted research in laser physics with a focus in nonlinear optics, image processing and optical computing using nonlinear optical materials. As a patent attorney, he practices in a wide range of technology fields, including electronics, semiconductors, wireless technologies, telecommunications, computer hardware, software, Internet-based technologies, display technologies, medical devices and surgical instrument, biomedical diagnostic technologies, biochemical sensors, energy-related technologies including batteries and fuel cells, lasers and optics, light sources including LED devices, nanotechnology, electrical engineering and physics.
Prior to joining Perkins Coie, Ai was a principal with the law firm of Fish & Richardson PC, where he practiced patent law and did patent prosecution for more than 10 years.
Ai is a partner of the national law firm of Perkins Coie LLP and works out of the firm's offices in San Diego and Menlo Park. The firm has more than 700 lawyers, including more than 200 intellectual property lawyers, and nearly 100 years of tradition in serving great companies across a wide range of industries and stages of growth.
Ai is a member of the Optical Society of America and a board member of Peking University Alumni Association of San Diego.
