Barbara Borden is currently representing Symyx Technologies Inc. in a merger of equals transaction with Accelrys Inc. She is also currently representing DivX Inc. in the company’s acquisition by Sonic Solutions.
Borden is a partner in Cooley’s San Diego office and head of the firm's national Mergers & Acquisitions practice. She specializes in mergers and acquisitions, cross-border transactions, joint ventures and other complex transactions and public securities law. Borden represents strategic and financial buyers and sellers in public and private acquisitions. She also has significant experience in counseling boards of directors in connection with mergers and acquisitions and related governance and anti-takeover matters.
In 2007, Borden was named to the Lawdragon 500 Dealmakers in America list and was also named to the 2009, 2008 and 2007 Southern California Super Lawyers - San Diego list in the category of Mergers & Acquisitions. She was recognized in the 2010 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the specialties of Corporate Governance and Compliance Law, Corporate Law and Securities Law.
Borden has served on the boards of Insite/Installation Gallery, which coordinates onsite-cross border art exhibitions, and Kids Included Together, an organization that supports recreational and developmental programs for children with and without disabilities. She is also actively involved in the education of her children at local Coronado schools.
