Defense verdict in a product liability action against a manufacturer of a personal water craft. In this wrongful death case, the plaintiff alleged that the craft was defective due to its failure to have “off-throttle steering” or a “reverse thrust bucket.” Plaintiff argued for more than $200,000,000 in economic loss. Defended an attorney in a malpractice action where the underlying issue was that the attorney missed filing a “sick building syndrome” case for the plaintiff, which required preparing the “underlying” case which dealt with possible exposure to many different potential toxins. Settled for a diminimus amount while the jury was deliberating.
Rawers is generally respected for two litigation skills. First, he has an ability to prepare complex cases with difficult issues and/or difficult opposing counsel, and position those cases for favorable settlement. Failing settlement, Rawers is also an experienced trial attorney having more than 50 jury trials. On many cases he is brought in at “the last minute” to assist in resolving the matter or taking it to trial. Rawers has tried cases in over 15 different areas of law, including products liability, professional liability, general liability, sexual abuse and wrongful termination. Rawers was also a Capt. in the United States Marine Corps, JAG, and worked as defense counsel, prosecutor and chief prosecutor for the Marine Corps Recruit Dept.
